Enough With The $7 Already!

I’ve been meaning to post this for probably a few years. Writing what I am sure a few others have been thinking.

Maybe it’s just me and the fact that I spent (IMO, wasted) over 20 years chasing the rabbit that had many faces – network marketing, direct marketing, internet marketing, etc. – but I feel the need to bitch about the unimaginative pricing structures people are still copying for their often extremely overpriced info cra-products.

Anyway, several years before the IM thing really took off, one of the originals, Cory Rudl (r.i.p.), was the one who came up with the now way overused new pricing format – the $7.  If you don’t know Cory, he started with selling Ferrari parts via an online store with his dad or something like that. Later in the early 2000s, he was riding as passenger in his Porsche GT (dangerous car to handle even by pros) on a racetrack in California and long story short, died, kinda pretty much like  Paul Walker did last November 2013.

I guess Cory was trying to get away from the 70s/80s ginsu, $19.99 pricing mantra. But all in all, it was not much of a stretch of the imagination to just change the last number from a 9 to a 7. Since he did that, pretty much everyone else since then has boringly copied that till this day.  Still, it seems it was pretty much fucking revolutionary as no one is bold enough to price differently. Bunch of damn copy cat woosies.

As marketing changes faster and attention spans, but not necessarily memory, get shorter, I would suggest to not follow the crowd and be a predictable ‘me too’. It makes everyone look like they went to the same online seminar/school and just mimic robotically what they are told they should do.

I say screw pyschology and embrace honesty and straight forwardness. I don’t currently have anything of my own that I am selling, but if I did, I would use the ZERO. It’s to the point. It’s easy to figure out.  Is that really too much to expect from, well, someone? I guess it’s all academic anyway, because as soon as people start all copying the one who changes to a different ending digit, then it’ll start all over again.

If you aren’t the lead dog, the view never changes and you spend all your time sniffing ass fumes.
